If you have a child in Toddler House, Children’s House, or Lower Elementary, you may begin to hear about the 8th graders who have recently joined their class.
Each spring the 8th graders embark on a structured mentoring program with the younger students at Inly for 45 minutes, twice a week. The goals of the mentoring program are for the students to:
Build relationships with younger students at Inly.
Connect (or re-connect) with teachers in the younger grades.
Provide the mentors with some real-life illustrations of the different stages of human development (which ties into a project they're working on right now) and experience with Montessori (particularly interesting for the 8th graders as they're getting ready to go on to their next schools).
As far as the younger children are concerned, they now have “big kids” who know them and can give them high-fives in the hallways, on the playground, and at Morning Share. They have new buddies in the classroom they can work with on math, reading, science, and cultural studies lessons. And they have the unique experience of deepening their ties in the Inly community.
